About This Activity
Boston School of Music Arts (BSMA) is a year-round music school in Dorchester that serves kids and adults with private lessons across many instruments (voice, piano, guitar, drums, strings, woodwinds, brass, etc.), plus group classes, ensembles/bands, music theory, and performance workshops—so many families use it as an ongoing extracurricular home base, not just a summer stop.
For summer, BSMA hosts summer music programs for kids as a way for kids to “really explore” music and performing arts beyond the standard weekly lesson routine. The Band (ages 8 – 17) and The Band Jr. (ages 5.5 – 7) programs run from 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. M–TH, 9:30-2:30 F, with optional early drop-off and late pick-up (except Fridays). Final performance on Fridays at 2:15 p.m! Music & Me (ages 7 – 13) is offered 9:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. M–TH, 9:30-2:30 F, with the same extended care options. Full day Music & Me Performances are on Fridays at 2:15 p.m.! Mini camps (for ages 5 – 17, including piano and drums) are 10:00–12:00, or 2:00–4:00, M-F, depending on the program. Early drop off and/or late pick is not available for mini camps, unless combined to create full day (i.e. 3 camps for a 10–4 schedule).
BSMA also runs vacation-week style programming, including an April “Spring Break Music Madness” camp week.

What Parents Think Could Be Improved

Our Take
The clearest online signals suggest BSMA is loved for warmth + teacher quality + visible student growth—all great signs if you’re choosing a music camp because you want more than just “something to do.”
