About This Activity
Camp Broadway is a NYC-based musical theater day camp that’s been around since 1995 and is often described as Broadway’s “original” summer camp. It’s operated by Broadway Education Alliance, which runs year-round youth enrichment and theater education programming, and Camp Broadway has also been recognized with a Special Drama Desk Award for introducing young people to theater.
For summer camp options, their NYC offerings include Mainstage (ages 10–17) and Shining Stars (ages 7–9). Both run as a one-week, immersive program in authentic Broadway rehearsal studios, with a cumulative format (note that daily, full attendance is mandatory). Parents will also appreciate the logistics details: lunch + healthy snacks are provided, programs are nut-free with accommodations for dietary/medical needs, and there’s a structured sign-in/sign-out system (including an optional “self-sign-out” for campers 13+ if a guardian authorizes it).
A practical “plan ahead” note: Camp Broadway notes their summer programs typically sell out by late April (and then move to a waitlist), so families who know it’s a fit often register early!

What Parents Like
- Parents describe kids making noticeable progress in a short time and coming home proud (especially families who travel in specifically for the NYC experience). (1)
- Reviews repeatedly call out the team as talented, supportive, and great with kids—often framed as the reason the week feels both fun and high-quality. (1)
- Multiple parents mention their kids being “worn out” in the best way—lots of singing/dancing/acting rehearsals and structured programming. (1)- Parents love that kids meet peers from all over and feel part of a welcoming theater community (some mentioning lasting friendships). (1)
- Reviews mention parents feeling well-prepared with updates/reminders and clear sign-in/sign-out routines. (1)
- The finale/showcase is a core highlight! Parents consistently point to the culminating performance experience as a “wow” moment (the kind kids talk about all year). (1)
What Parents Think Could Be Improved
- It’s intense—more “real rehearsal week” than “chill camp.” The same thing parents love (full days, lots of rehearsal) can be a lot for kids who prefer a looser, play-forward camp vibe. (1)
Our Take
Camp Broadway in summary: if your child is a true theater kid, this is a dream week—high-quality instruction, a big final performance moment, and a community that feels special and welcoming. The main MomBrains guidance is fit: if your child thrives on structure, rehearsal, and performing, it’s a strong bet; if they want a more traditional camp day with lots of downtime and free play, you’ll want to ask very directly about the daily pace before booking.
