About This Activity
Chelsea Piers offers weekly-enrollment summer camps from June through August for children ages 3-17. Program themes include gymnastics, soccer, ninja/parkour, baseball/hockey, multi-sport, tennis, and general sports-and-fitness through their “Sports Academy”. Younger campers (ages 3-5) have preschool-style options with movement, games, and swim, while older kids (5-13 or up to 17) join more intensive full-day tracks.
For school breaks, the Pier offers mini camps in many of the same activities, as outlined here.
The camps make use of Chelsea Piers’ large sports-facility footprint—including gymnasiums, climbing walls, ice rinks, and indoor/outdoor fields—and include features like open swim time, bounce houses, creative games and multi‐sport variation to keep things active and fun.
For kids who are just looking to have fun or are highly competitively and skilled in their field, there is something for everyone here!

What Parents Like
- Parents love that Chelsea Piers camps take place in professional-level facilities: ice rinks, gymnastics gyms, turf fields, rock wall, golf, and more. Many mention that it doesn’t feel like a generic rec center; kids get a taste of “the real thing,” especially in sport-specific camps (gymnastics, hockey, soccer, golf, parkour, etc.). (1, 2, 3)
- Families appreciate the breadth of options: multi-sport camps for generalists, plus focused programs for kids who are really into one sport or activity. Parents with multiple kids say it’s nice that siblings can be in the same general place but different specialty camps. (1, 4)
- A frequent theme is that kids come home tired, happy, and physically spent, especially from multi-sport and gym-based camps. Parents working full days say it’s a relief knowing their kids are busy, active, and not on screens all day. (1, 2, 5)
- Many reviews praise the coaching quality: staff who are current or former athletes, strong gymnasts, skating coaches, or experienced youth instructors. Parents feel their kids actually improve skills, not just kill time, particularly in sport-specific camps. (1, 2)
- The consistent full-day schedule, plus early drop-off/extended day options and school break camps during school holidays, make Chelsea Piers a go-to childcare solution for many Manhattan families. Parents like knowing they can count on it during summer, winter break, and random holidays. (1, 4)
What Parents Think Could be Improved
- The most common criticism: price. Many parents note that Chelsea Piers camps are on the high end of NYC camp pricing, especially for full-summer or multiple kids. Some feel it’s worth it for the facilities and instruction; others say it’s simply out of reach or only doable for a week or two. (2)
- Parents who aren’t already near Chelsea or on the West Side sometimes note that getting to and from camp is a slog, especially at rush hour or with multiple kids. Dropping off and picking up in a busy complex can feel stressful, and some mention that the check-in/out process can be slow or confusing on high-traffic days. (1)
Our Take
Parent feedback on Chelsea Piers summer and school break camps generally portrays them as a high-energy, high-quality, but high-priced option for NYC families, especially those with kids who love sports and can handle a big, busy environment. The standout positives are the world-class facilities, strong sports instruction, and the fact that kids get lots of movement and full-day structure, which is a lifesaver for working parents.
