About This Activity
Running Brook Camps offers a mix of summer camp programs for kids from preschool through high school, all designed around the same core goals: being safe, having fun, and spending lots of time outdoors. For younger campers, the Day Camp provides a classic, all-around camp experience on the Chapel Hill–Chauncy Hall campus, with activities like music, camp games, drama, arts and crafts, creative movement, nature, and yoga/mindfulness, plus archery, challenge course, and STEAM for campers in 2nd grade and up. Older elementary kids in 3rd grade and above can choose electives, and snack and lunch are provided daily, which is a big practical win for parents.
For upper elementary and middle schoolers, Running Brook Adventures offers more adventurous programming for campers who have completed grades 4–8, including age-banded options like Excursions (grades 4–5) and Trekkers (grades 5–6). These are two-week sessions of day trips and camping experiences that explore the surrounding community and the greater Boston/New England area, blending on-campus activities with off-campus adventures in nature and around the region.
For teens, Running Brook also offers Creative Arts Camp and a Leadership Training Program. Creative Arts focuses on visual and performing arts with on-campus studios and facilities, giving older campers a chance to dive deeper into art-making. The Leadership Training Program is aimed at high school students who want to build counselor and leadership skills, serving as a bridge between attending camp and working with younger campers. All of these programs are accredited by the American Camp Association and the Massachusetts Camping Association, and they emphasize a balance of structured programming and free-play time in a supportive environment.

Ratings & Reviews
What Parents Like
- Parents rave about the camp not just for activities (though they fulfill that), but growth in confidence and social skills. (1)
- Guardians rate the staff, facilities, activities, personal attention, value all very highly. It reinforces the picture of high staff engagement and strong community.(2)
- On Glassdoor, Running Brook Camps has a 4.5/5 rating with 86% of reviewers recommending the camp as an employer, noting a “fun and supportive atmosphere” and a place where staff feel “appreciated and respected.” That doesn’t necessarily speak directly to parents, but camps where staff feel supported and like working with kids often deliver better experiences for families. What Parents Think Could be Improved
- Some parent reviews suggest that it is not a great fit for kids who need less structure or more support. (2)
Our Take
Running Brook is widely described as a classic, activity-rich day camp, with campers enjoying daily swim (instructional + free swim), woodworking, drama, music, science, dance, karate, arts & crafts, etc. Parents and grandparents who are happy with the camp highlight excellent counselors, a wide range of classes, helpful office staff and directors, and kids who are excited to go back each summer. Staff reviews back this up with comments about a supportive culture and fun environment for both campers and employees. Some feedback suggests that for some families, especially those with kids who need more individualized support or a slower pace, the camp can feel too structured and too packed with transitions, and the staff may not always have the bandwidth to handle behavioral/processing challenges well.
