About This Activity

SELA’s Summer Program is an 11-week, full-immersion Spanish experience (June–August) built around STEAM learning and weekly themes. This year, the program theme (“Eco Amigos”) focuses on nature and sustainability—kids learn through hands-on projects, sensory play, art + science exploration, and age-appropriate activities for infants/toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged kids. Older campers also get light coding exposure using Scratch, designed to be fun and accessible.

Their Vacation (School Break) Programs run during Christmas, Winter (February), and Spring breaks, and are designed to keep kids engaged with SELA’s immersive, project-based learning model while school is out. Programs are offered for children as young as 3 months through 6th grade, with break themes that often include STEAM challenges, collaborative games, creative projects, and language-rich activities.

And if you’re looking for a school-year option, SELA also offers after-school full-immersion language programs (including Spanish—and they note options in Mandarin as well), typically in small groups (8–12 students) with a set weekly schedule (Mon/Tue/Thu, late afternoon) aimed at helping kids maintain and grow fluency, including for former SELA students who’ve transitioned to other schools.

Ratings & Reviews

What Parents Like

  • Parents say kids actually become bilingual (and use it at home) after SELA. Multiple reviews describe kids going from no Spanish to speaking/understanding quickly, and even kids naturally speaking Spanish at home (songs/phrases) without prompting. (1, 2)
  • Reviews say that teachers feel warm, nurturing, and highly skilled. Parents repeatedly use words like caring, empathetic, professional, and warm, and describe staff as genuinely invested in each child. (2)
  • One long-term parent review says staff proactively ensure kids are learning at an appropriate level—both challenged and nurtured—and that the education feels individualized. (1)
  • Parents mention their child’s confidence and “thirst for knowledge” growing, along with big pride in bilingual/trilingual outcomes. (1)
  • The community feel is a standout. Several reviews explicitly mention a strong sense of community and forming friendships with other families, plus family events/meet-ups. (3, 2)
  • A parent reviewer says they participated in both summer and vacation programs with positive outcomes, and a volunteer review of summer enrichment describes staff as knowledgeable/compassionate and notes cultural + physical activities with consistent immersion. (1
  • In a South Shore daycare discussion, parents call SELA “as good as it gets,” and another family says they love it for their 2-year-old at the Hingham location. (4)

What Parents Think Could Be Improved

  • Cost can be a real consideration. Even in positive word-of-mouth threads, parents flag that it looks expensive (and discuss weekly cost estimates). Translation: it may be a stretch depending on your childcare/school budget. (4)

Our Take

SELA’s online parent feedback is consistent around a few “why families stay” themes: rapid language gains (real immersion results), genuinely caring staff, and a strong community feel—plus specific positive signals for summer/vacation programming as well as the school-year experience.
