About This Activity
Wellesley Theatre Project (WTP) summer camps are built like a menu of theatre options by age and intensity—from fun, themed day camps to serious, audition-based productions—so families can choose “try it out” weeks or a true performance training track. On the lighter/creative side, WTP offers themed camps like Quidditch & Potions where kids build a world through games, props, and outdoor time. They also run a Foundations track focused on core musical theatre skills (choreography/dance technique, singing/breathing, performance confidence, blocking, voice projection), which they describe as the baseline training students need before participating in full productions during the school year.
For families with kids who want the “big show” experience, WTP’s Production Camps are the flagship: students learn the full process “from audition preparation to Opening Night,” and each camp ends with three public performances of a professionally produced show; space is limited and registration is first-come. Summer 2026 examples include multi-week productions like Shrek The Musical KIDS (Grades 2–8, 2 weeks, 9am–4pm, two-cast structure with multiple performance times) and longer options like Cinderella Youth Edition (Grades 2–12, 3 weeks, 9am–4pm) plus teen productions (e.g., Rock of Ages Teen Edition/Footloose for Grades 9–12 with evening performances and separate tech rehearsal schedules).
They also support kids who love the behind-the-scenes side of theatre with Technical Theatre Camps—a multi-week, hands-on track where students work on technical projects and serve as the tech crew for a production. And for older kids who want leadership experience, WTP lists internship roles (Grades 7–12) such as assistant director, stage manager/ASM, assistant choreographer, teaching assistants, social media/tech interns, etc., applied for through a letter of interest and experience/resume.

Ratings & Reviews
What Parents Like
- Kids make real friends + feel part of a team. WTP’s parent testimonials repeatedly mention campers making friends quickly, learning collaboration, and feeling like they belong. (1)
- Noticeable skill growth (acting/voice/dance) in a short time. Parent quotes highlight kids learning “a ton” about acting and voice and coming away more confident. (1)
- The end-of-camp productions feel legitimately impressive. Parents rave about the final results—calling productions “absolutely fantastic” with strong choreography, comedy, singing, and acting (which lines up with WTP’s production-camp model). (1)
- Wellesley Theatre Project is consistently included in “top performing arts camp” roundups and parent-voted lists (not individual reviews, but a solid reputation signal). (2, 3)
What Parents Think Could Be Improved
- These are theatre-forward weeks (not a loose, general day camp). Between themed camps and especially multi-week production camps, the structure can feel more like a creative intensive than “free-play summer camp,” so fit depends on your child’s interest and stamina. (1)
Our Take
WTP’s strongest, most verifiable “why families like it” themes are confidence + skill growth, friendships/teamwork, and high-quality final productions—the kind of experience that really clicks for kids who love performing (or want to try it in a supportive setting).
