Newton Girls Soccer

Newton Girls Soccer is a large, community-based girls’ soccer organization offering a pathway from Pre-K through high school, with more than 1,200 players and 250 coaches. Its programs are intentionally designed to accommodate different levels of interest and commitment. Younger players can start with the Juniors program, a recreational introduction focused on fun, ball touches and positive encouragement. Grades 3–12 can participate in the City recreational program, which includes weekly practices and Saturday games, while the Travel program provides a more competitive experience with twice-weekly practices, Saturday games and professional training support.

For families looking for additional development, NGS also offers Skills training, clinics and an invitation-only Academy. The Academy is a three-season program for highly motivated players in grades 1–8 who want additional training and higher-level competition alongside their regular NGS team; older Academy teams compete through the New England Club Soccer League in partnership with NEFC.

Overall, NGS stands out for offering a genuine “something for everyone” pathway—from a flexible, low-pressure introduction to soccer to a significantly more competitive club-style experience—while consistently emphasizing player development, teamwork, sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game.

Registration for NEFC NGS Academy teams is by invitation-only.

Our Take

Newton Girls Soccer looks particularly strong for families who want their daughter to develop as a soccer player without giving up the community and convenience of town-based soccer. The organization is unusually broad, serving more than 1,300 girls through recreational City soccer, BAYS travel, skills programming and the NECSL Academy.

The Academy is the standout for more serious players: families get professional coaching and higher-level competition while keeping practices and home games largely within Newton. Former-player feedback also supports the idea that the program can provide meaningful technical development and prepare girls for continued soccer beyond NGS.
